The eighth chapter “Between a Hammer and a Sickle” illustrates the reconstruction of destroyed country in post war decades and the development of Belgrade in the 90s of the 20th century.
Belgrade was liberated in October 1944. It became the capital of the new state, which was renamed and restructured. Belgraders remained divided again. Part of them met the liberation wit h fear from the communists’ rule. Nevertheless, the wave of joy and enthusiasm for the liberation overpowered the anxiety. The citizens welcomed the proclamation of The Republic in 1945 and the adoption of the Constitution of FNRY in 1946.
